Ethiopia defeat Somalia 2014 World Cup group phase

Ethiopia reached the group phase of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers when beating Somalia 5-0 on Wednesday. The Wayla Antelopes progress 5-0 on aggregate after the victory in Addis Ababa.

A brace each from Shimeles Bekele and Getaneh Kebede and another strike from Omod Okwury helped the home side to the emphatic victory. The home side dominated the early exchanges and raced into the lead on five minutes with the goal from Okwury.

AFP - Ethiopian Firehiwot Dado captured the 42nd New York Marathon women's title on Sunday, winning in two hours, 23 minutes and 15 seconds to edge compatriot Buzunesh Deba by four seconds.

Dado, a 27-year-old making her New York debut, won her third consecutive Rome Marathon title last March in 2:24:13 but eclipsed that time as her personal best with her closing run in ideal conditions.

Belgian coach Saintfiet leaves Ethiopia job

CAPE TOWN (Reuters) - Belgian coach Tom Saintfiet said on Friday he was leaving his job as Ethiopia coach after just five months, citing broken promises for his departure.

"Despite the many positives, some agreements were not honoured and that is the reason for this decision," he said in an e-mail to Reuters.
