The patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Ethiopia says he will announce to the world Friday the unveiling of the Ark of the Covenant, perhaps the world's most prized archaeological and spiritual artifact, which he says has been hidden away in a church in his country for millennia, according to the Italian news agency Adnkronos.

ADDIS ABABA, June 19 (Reuters) - Ethiopia has confirmed its first cases of H1N1 flu virus, Health Minister Tewedros Adhanhom said on Friday.
It was the second country after South Africa to report the deadly flu.

ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - Ethiopia said on Wednesday it will distribute 4.5 million free energy-saving light bulbs in response to a worsening power shortage that is crippling businesses and slashing export revenues.
Ethiopia started rationing power in March and major towns are now without electricity every second day.
"We will distribute 4.5 million of the bulbs to domestic customers," Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCO) spokesman Misikir Negash told Reuters.

ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - A group of men accused of plotting to topple Ethiopia's government were tortured in prison during lengthy interrogations, relatives said on Monday.
At a pre-trial hearing in Addis Ababa, a judge refused a request from a lawyer for one of the 32 men for a doctor chosen by the families to visit the detainees in prison to compile a report on any injuries.
